When I look great, I feel great and I produce outstanding work.
Danielle LaPorte often talks about core desired feelings which is a holistic approach to life planning. She encourages people to navigate their life and career decisions based on how they want to feel. The primary objective is to always feel good.
:: This is how I live my life::
My feelings map out every move I make in both my personal and professional worlds. I don’t know about you, but I want to wake up feeling alive each day. I want passion to fill each bounce in my step. I want to look and feel good naked. I want to walk into the office feeling inspired. I want to live life to the fullest and to explore my curiosity.
:: I crave fulfillment. I know you do too::
Hence why my closet has not seen a track suit in nearly a decade. There are two options when I wake up in the morning; fab or casual fab. Nothing less. And no I’m not a superficial princess, it’s called having standards. This is a personal goal I’ve set for myself.
For nearly 10 years, I’ve worked as a celebrity fashion stylist [ask about my portfolio]. This business venture has granted me many amazing opportunities. I’ve worked in LA/Toronto for many entertainers and have had experiences of a lifetime. But the one important lesson that the fashion industry has taught me is the power of a first impression. It will literally make or break you.
:: Here are 4 reasons that motivate me to walk out of the house looking and feeling like a 10 every day ::
You only get one chance to create a first impression. Before you even open your mouth, you’ve already made a statement to the world. Yes, they are judging you. Should you care? The only thing you should care about is the message you are sending through your image and personal style. When you put your best foot forward, people notice and when you are noticed doors open, opportunities arise and the new girl on the block now has eyes set on her. There are levels to this. It’s called self-promotion and it’s an art every woman should know inside out. If not, you’ll end up invisible. You have the power to say something about who you and what what you stand for through your image, so don’t waste the opportunity. Own it!
Spending time working on you is time well spent. One of the many reasons I wake up early is just so I can ensure that I am not frantically rushing around the house in the morning. I give so much of myself to others throughout the day that there’s no way in hell I am not going to take advantage of the precious moments before the rest of the world rises. Whether I treat myself through meditation, enriching my mind by reading a passage from my bible, having a long hot shower, etc. It all contributes to how I will feel when I walk out my front door … and the objective is to feel good remember?
You are the hallmark of your brand. Maintain a reputation of consistent excellence in everything you do and that includes how you present yourself. Good brands immediately tell the audience what they’re about. I define my mark through my magnetic personality, online presence, killer work ethic and savvy image. I know what works for me and make sure my message is clear. Let’s call it brand DNA.
“Your public image is not only about how you dress, it’s also defined by the crew you hang with, the way you behave and the manner in which you treat other people. - Kimora Lee Simmons
Your image is worth more than any resume. Amen to that! It has proven to be true time and time again in my career. Bottom line, dress for the career you want, not the one you currently have. Develop a signature look and don’t hesitate to dazzle. People want to be wowed by you. But do not depend solely on your looks, keep your mind as sharp as the spike on your stiletto. A balance is very important. My old boss used to say, “Beauty may get you in the door, but brains will keep you there.”
I work in an environment that inspires me to dress up every day. I put in the effort because I love the productivity that is an indirect result from those extra few minutes I take to style my hair, pluck my brows, put on sky-high stilettos and an outfit that highly defines my individual style. Ultimately, that’s why I don’t rock track suits; it’s the easy way out. I want to challenge myself each day to put forth the very best image and let the world know I am here. I wasn’t always a confident girl but today, I’m a woman who truly believes that being pulled together gives you the confidence to handle anything.
“I had to grow to love my body. I did not have a good self-image at first and I guess I hit rock bottom, and I was like, I’m either going to love me or hate me.’ And I chose to love myself. Then everything kind of sprung from there.” - Queen Latifah
Peace & Love,
